My Week Room in 121

Dear Friends,

I had so much fun in Room 121.
I got to go to Art with the class and draw portraits.
I had so much fun on the playground. The class earned a free recess for good behavior.
It was exciting to see the butterflies emerge from their chrysalis.
I really enjoyed reading with the students. I will miss Reynolds.

This week I was with Mrs. Sing's class. I got the chance to do some fun recycling activities as it was "National Green Week." Here is a picture of me weighing our snack trash and this helped us learn how it's important to use reusable containers so that we have less waste.

This week, I also learned how to put spelling words into ABC order. All the words had the vowel "i". I helped put the short and long i words into alphabetical order.

In Mrs. Sing's class this week, the children were learning about caterpillars and butterflies in Science. I got the chance to observe caterpillars turning into a chrysalis. It was so exciting to see the caterpillars change throughout the week! Here is a picture of me observing the caterpillars change.

During math this week, I was able to use the iPad to play some math games with a friend. I loved using the app "Splash Math" to learn about skip counting, and adding and subtracting. Here's a picture of me using the iPad!

I had such an exciting week in Mrs. Sing's class! I even got the chance to read a book called Aqualicious. It was about a little girl who found a mermaid at the beach. It makes me feel excited for warm weather! I'm off to my next first grade class, I will see you all next week at the Google Hangout.

Mrs. Carmilani's First Grade Class

Wow! I am in Mrs. Carmilani’s first grade class and I am learning so much with the children.  I’ve been busy getting ready for the Passport to Learning show where we learn about the countries of the world and the 7 continents.  The 7  continents are North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica.
I also took part in all of their lessons in Writing Workshop, Reading Workshop, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

I was able to read books sitting back-to-back and hip-to-hip.  Calendar is a lot of fun. We don’t just learn about the date but we talk about place value and money.

Snack is the best. We get to sit with one another and talk quietly using indoor voices.

A visit with Mrs. Vega's class!

¡Hola niños y niñas! I had another exciting week in Reynolds School with Mrs. Vega's class.  They get to do a lot of fun things in first grade.  This week they have been getting ready for their show called Passport to Learning.  All year long they have been learning about different cultures and noticing the how those countries are similar or different than the United States of America.   The class has been researching facts about different countries and singing songs.  They even sing a song in Spanish called ¡Canta! and they wrote their own verse for the song.

The class has been reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man and learning why the stories are different in other countries. They figured out it was because their culture influences the different versions of the Gingerbread Man. They even read The Gingerbread Baby, The Runaway Tortilla, and The Gingerbread Girl.

I even got to play Math games on the computer and practice spelling words during Word Study. On Friday, Mrs. Vega gives the class "Ketchup & Pickle Time." Students who are not finished with their work need to "catch up" on the work they missed, while others are "picking" something to do.  You will see that I was drawing on my whiteboard during Pickle Time.

I hope you enjoyed reading this entry.  I had a blast and I hope Rocket is having a blast, too! ¡Hasta luego!

My Week with Mrs. King’s Class!

My Week with Mrs. King’s Class

Hola boys and girls! I’ve had another very exciting week at Reynold’s School! This week I was with the students in Mrs. King’s class. You’ll see by the pictures they took with me, that I got to do so many fun first grade things. In the beginning of the week I learned how to play a Math game called “Coin Exchange”. On that same day, there was a famous author named Douglas Florian who came to visit the students. I got to hear him read some of his books and see some of his super cool animal illustrations. The week continued with lots of other fun activities. I got to help fill in the calendar, learn a new game in word study, and even wrote like a Scientist! One day it was Mrs. King’s birthday. A boy in her class even let me help him make her a card. The students are so lucky because they get to do something called “Brain Breaks” on a website called “Go Noodle” every day. Together, we danced and sang a birthday song to Mrs. King. The first graders are super readers! I helped two friends turn and talk about a book. I even read a little bit about pets in a book called Biscuit Finds a Friend. At the end of each day, Mrs. King’s students pack up their things and do their class jobs. I got to help out with that too! As you can see, I had a very exciting week at Reynold’s School. I hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures and hearing about my special time. I hope Rocket is having fun with you!
