My Visit to Mrs. Joy's Class

This week I visited Mrs. Joy's 1st grade class.  We did so many fun things. I got to read, write, and play games. I even got to draw a picture on the computer.  I also got to dance when her class did Go Noodle.  I got to build a tower with 3D blocks.  I'm so lucky because I got to spend time with each of the students in the class.  I had so much fun visiting them!

We also want to learn!!

We have been thinking about your questions and students were willing to ask you about similar aspects.
  • Do you wear a uniform?
  • Does your school have a shield?
  • What sports do you practise at school? Is there a sportsfield?
  • What lessons do you have at school? What time do lessons start?
  • What is your typical music?
  • Which are typical animals from your area?
  • Are there famous monuments nearby? Like the Statue of Liberty....

Respuestas!
Hola! Soy Florencia Gonzalez, soy la maestra de inglés de segundo grado. Mis alumnos también están muy entusiasmados con el proyecto y desean conocer más sobre New Jersey y Estados Unidos.

Hello! I am Florencia Gonzalez, I am the english teacher of second form. My students are also very excited about this project and they want to learn about your city and your country.

We read your questions and we thought about the answers, kids learnt a lot about their own country! Here are the answers.

  • Argentinian peolpe drink a lot of mate! It is a traditional drink. We drink it for breakfast, tea, after lunch, sometimes as lunch!!! It can be drunk sweet, bitter, cold or hot. In our classroom 17 children out of 26 like it!
  • We do not wear guardapolvos in our school because this is a private school. Private schools have uniforms and state schools have guardapolvos.

  • Our favourite part of having asados is that we meet our family and friends. The food is delicious and we have a great time!
  • The 9 de julio Ave is very famous in Buenos Aires. It is very wide and there is the obelisco in the middle. This avenue is in the city centre and we live downtown, so  some students have crossed it when they went sightseeing or to visit the town. There are many buildings and shops nearby. Some theatres and cinemas are near 9 de julio. The underground station there has its name. So you can go there by bus, car or underground! One of out students visited the obelisco at night and she shared this photo with us

  • Tango is a typical dance but we do not always dance it. You can see tango dancers in La Boca, Caminito, which are typical places in Buenos Aires. There are also Tango bars where you can go and enjoy it.
  • Alfajores are more than good!! they are delicious. You can have them at any moment and place. We buy them in the school canteen, supermarket, shops, everywhere!! And there are different flavours: chocolate, dulce de leche, fruits, mousse; and different sizes too!
These are some of the alfajores brands

  • August is a very cold month. Winter starts on the 21st of June and it lasts till the 21st of september. So in August it is very cold and rainy. Here in Buenos Aires it is not frequent to have snow. It snows in the south of the country and in the mountains. However, on the 9th of July 2007 it snowed really hard in Buenos Aires, we couldn't believe our eyes. Everybody took pictures and played with the snow, this was something unique!
We hope to have answered all your questions as completely as possible. We will post our questions on your country on friday, students are thinking about them with their families and we'll share them in class tomorrow.
